Catholic schools have a long history of integrating strong academics with a firm foundation in Catholic faith. Later this month Catholic schools across Alaska will celebrate National Catholic Schools Week in an effort to highlight the benefits of receiving a faith-based education.
At this time of resolutions and new beginnings, we can begin by cultivating our relationship with God with a fresh start and new opportunities. We can begin with a simple commitment to pray each day — spending ten minutes with the Lord to share our joys and sorrows.

As I reflect on my life in this year of the Lord 2018, there is one small bit of history that I long to retrieve however there is not much promise that it will ever happen. My one great longing is to know exactly, exactly where I was born.

A priest at my parish told about the crucifix that hung in the chapel of the novitiate where he prepared for the priesthood. He was intrigued that the corpus of Christ was nailed, not to a cross, but to the brick wall of the chapel.
Here are some upcoming events in the Anchorage Archdiocese.
On Saturday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m., the 18th annual Anchorage interdenominational prayer service marking the anniversary of Roe v. Wade takes place at the Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery on 9th Street and Cordova. Leading pro-life leaders in Alaska will join Anchorage Archbishop Paul Etienne for this gathering.
Holy Cross Father LeRoy Clementich, known affectionately to most as “Father Clem,” will have his last column published for the Catholic Anchor in February, bringing an 18-year run to an end.
Anchorage Archbishop Paul Etienne is scheduled to participate in the following events and liturgies during the month of January.
