So, what should we say regarding those two words — intelligence and wisdom — that we use so often in common conversation? Intelligence, obviously, is that human ability to understand something, to separate it from or compare it to something similar. It is the brainpower we are born with that guides us safely throughout our lives and helps us find our place in the world community.

The banquet honors individuals, couples and groups who are nominated by their fellow Catholics as exemplifying the spirit of Saint Francis, a spirit of humble service and stewardship. Anchorage Archbishop Paul Etienne called on “Catholics and people of good will across the United States” to remember and support those who have suffered in the wake of hurricanes in Puerto Rico and surrounding islands. As chairman of the Subcommittee on Catholic Home Missions for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Archbishop Etienne issued a joint statement with Bishop Frank Dewane of Venice, Florida, the chair of the USCCB Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development.
