World Youth Day is meant to be a pilgrimage, and a way of participating in a tangible way in the universal church. A highlight of the event is always the final Mass with the pope, and this year did not disappoint the 76 pilgrims who traveled with the group from Alaska.

“Sacred music is beautiful and has been left as ‘a part of the past’ to some and I want to resurface that beauty and have it accessible to everyone,” she said.

Justin Leiner knows it can be intimidating to publically share the Catholic faith, but the benefits, he’s found, are eternally rewarding.
Moropoulos said Protestants and Catholics coming together on a project like this is “a great testament of faith” to those who do not believe in Christ.
Thanks to some forward thinking by Saint Francis of Assisi in the 13th century, several lay Catholic Alaskans are now official members of the Franciscan Order.
