Catholic schools opened last month in Anchorage, Wasilla and Kodiak, where the schools are still accepting incoming students. The following is a short introduction to each school.
“We want to follow the example of the young man in that wisdom of coming to Jesus and asking Jesus the questions we have about this life, trusting that he will give us the answers that we seek,” Archbishop Etienne said. “As we begin a new academic year, particularly in this Catholic school, we realize what the real end goal is — eternal life. Life with God, for eternity.”
In an effort to better understand the challenges and aspirations of Alaska’s young adult Catholics, Anchorage Archbishop Paul Etienne recently spent an evening in prayer and conversation with more than 30 people, ages 18-35, at St. Patrick Church in Anchorage.
Speaking on forgiveness, Father Lilly’s homily noted that parents and teachers must be adept at forgiving many times over. He warned against a tendency to see the imperfection of another and to hold grudges, even if an apology is extended.

Anchorage Archbishop Paul Etienne will formally receive his pallium, a traditional woolen vestment, on Sept. 8, 6 p.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Co-Cathedral in Anchorage. Pope Francis’ representative to the United States, Nuncio Archbishop Christophe Pierre, will be on hand for the Mass.
As the summer days grow shorter and autumn approaches, students across Alaska are preparing for the beginning of a new school year. Among those students are the four young men studying to become priests for the Archdiocese of Anchorage. The Catholic Anchor caught up with each of these seminarians to learn what they did over their summer break, and what the next academic year holds in store.
Alaskans once again turned out in impressive numbers to financially support young men training to become priests for the Archdiocese of Anchorage. The second annual Seminarian Night dinner fundraiser took place Aug. 10 at Lumen Christi High School in Anchorage. More than 175 attendees donated tens of thousands of dollars.
Anchorage Archbishop Paul Etienne has called on Alaska’s Catholics to assist victims affected by Hurricane Harvey. Joining fellow bishops from across the nation, Archbishop Etienne asked area parishes hold a special collection in September.
