The annual Chrism Mass will be celebrated on April 6, 7 p.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Co-Cathedral in Anchorage. Archbishop Paul Etienne will lead this sacred liturgy, during which he will bless the sacramental oils to be used throughout the year across the Anchorage Archdiocese.

On this 5th Sunday of Lent, the readings call us once again to a closer relationship with God through Jesus Christ. The first reading from the Prophet Ezekiel recalls the promise and power of God to raise us from the grave.
HB 54 legalizes physician-assisted suicide and euthanasia…The bill is based on a similar law in Oregon, which has a near complete lack of transparency. If Alaska enacts HB 54…there will be a similar lack of transparency. The safely and welfare of individual patients will be unverifiable from Alaska State sources.
Bill sponsor, Drummond, will give an overview of the bill at the March 14 hearing in the House Health & Social Services Committee, after which, committee members can ask questions. Though verbal testimony from the public will not be heard until later, written testimony can be submitted at any time. Such comments are sometimes used by committee members during the hearing.

Since Monday evening, the priests of Alaska along with the bishops have gathered here in Anchorage for our annual convocation. I am tremendously impressed with the selfless dedication of these men. These priests serve an area twice the size of Texas, or 16% of the lower 48 states!
