Alaskan children benefit from loving adoptive families

The foster care system is a huge challenge. Each year thousands of Alaska’s children are placed in out-of-home care, according to the Alaska Office of Children’s Services. On average approximately 3,000 children are in foster care in Alaska each month. Children often enter the foster care system because they have been determined to be unsafe or at high risk of maltreatment in their family home.

Mat-Su Catholics to ride ‘Mercy Bus’ to close out jubilee year

The Year of Mercy, called for by Pope Francis, ends on Nov. 20, at which time all designated Holy Doors around the world will be closed. Before then, Mat-Su Valley Catholics aim to ride what has been coined “The Mercy Bus” to take one last opportunity to pass through the designated Holy Door at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Big Lake and then visiting all Mat-Su parishes and missions throughout the final week.
