Alaska’s World Youth Day pilgrims urged to register by end of June

Alaskan pilgrims planning to attend the 2016 World Youth Day gathering with Pope Francis in Poland are being urged to register for the trip by the end of this month.

A letter sent by Anchorage organizer Bob McMorrow to all potential Alaskan pilgrims urged them to sign up by the end of June if at all possible.

McMorrow is working with the Anchorage Archdiocese in helping to facilitate the trip for Alaskans who wish to attend the global gathering of young Catholics.

His letter noted that the tour company used by the archdiocese is purchasing airline tickets soon and wants as many pilgrims as possible to register by the end of the month.

“Signing up entails turning in your registration form and getting up to date on payments,” McMorrow wrote.

For those who cannot make payments and register by the end of the month, “all hope is not lost,” McMorrow said. But to guarantee a spot on the trip, registration by the end of June is recommended.

“It will still be possible to register in the upcoming months,” he said but the tour company — Catholic Pilgrim Office — will have to confirm space with the airlines before allowing more people to join.

McMorrow also noted that it is possible that the airline cost could increase in future months.

“So, the only guaranteed way to register for WYD is to sign up by the end of June,” he concluded.
