More than 300 people turned out for what many believe is the first-ever pro-life march in Palmer on Saturday, Jan. 28. Mat-Su residents packed the downtown Palmer Depot before marching through the streets of palmer to pray for an end to abortion and give peaceful public witness to the dignity and rights of unborn babies.
Alaskans will have an opportunity to express their concerns to the State Board of Education and Early Development during an audio conference at noon on Jan. 27. The meeting will take place in Juneau (801 West 10th Street) and the public is invited to attend in person or by telephone from anywhere in Alaska.
The next meeting, Jan. 15, features a presentation and discussion titled: “Catholic response to gender identity issues.” The gathering runs 4-5:45 p.m. in Lumen Christi High School, room 109, in Anchorage
The State of Alaska sponsored a workshop, open to all state educators, instructing them how to assist students — elementary age and older — who wish to transition away from their biological sex and identify otherwise.
Alaskan educators were urged push for sex education that includes explicit instruction on condom use, how to procure and use a wide range of contraceptives and how to understand and accept gender identity and sexual orientation, among other topics.
I feel it is an injustice for me to come in, just as the archbishop, and tell the church, “Here’s what we’re going to do.” That’s not my style. I will be a leader and I will, at the appropriate time, share my vision. But I will collaborate with pastors and parish and diocesan leaders in setting that vision in motion.
The ACLU of Alaska filed a lawsuit Dec. 14 against the Kenai Peninsula Borough on behalf of two plaintiffs who wish to use time set aside for opening prayers at assembly meetings to voice support for atheistic ideologies and celebrate Satan.
