Dave Belanger, the much loved and longtime manager of Catholic cemeteries for the Anchorage Archdiocese, passed away on the morning of Good Friday (April 3, 2015) after a nearly year-long struggle with cancer. A funeral for will take place on Thursday, April 9, beginning at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Wasilla.

In a few months I will return to Alaska. It is the bookend of another trip I took five and a half years ago when entering St. Paul Seminary in Minnesota to begin my formation as a Catholic priest for the Archdiocese of Anchorage. As this journey comes to an end it is natural to look back on this blessed time.
Anchorage Archbishop Roger Schwietz announced new parish assignments for several priests of the Anchorage Archdiocese. The new assignments affect St. Andrew Church in Eagle River and Sacred Heart Church in Wasilla.

The annual event honoring Alaskans who serve the Catholic Church in the spirit of Saint Francis, has received some updates for 2015. For starters, the event is now officially called the St. Francis Stewardship Awards to better reflect the stewardship aspect of the program. The event time has also changed from its traditional date in February to early October, closer to the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi. Additionally, this year’s awards will highlight, specifically, the work of parish volunteers.
