The Alaska Legislature approved Gov. Bill Walker’s nominee, Lumen Christi High School Principal John Harmon, to serve on the Alaska State Board of Education & Early Development for the next five years. Confirmed with a 48-11 vote, Harmon will fill Esther Cox’s seat on the nine-member board, which has a mission statement “to ensure quality standards-based instruction to improve academic achievement for all students.”
On Thursday, April 16, Theology and Brew in Anchorage will host a talk entitled, “Judgment & Grace: God’s Desire for Our Salvation.” The presentation will be delivered by Oblate priest Father Arthur Flores.
Dave Belanger, the much loved and longtime manager of Catholic cemeteries for the Anchorage Archdiocese, passed away on the morning of Good Friday (April 3, 2015) after a nearly year-long struggle with cancer. A funeral for will take place on Thursday, April 9, beginning at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Wasilla.

In a few months I will return to Alaska. It is the bookend of another trip I took five and a half years ago when entering St. Paul Seminary in Minnesota to begin my formation as a Catholic priest for the Archdiocese of Anchorage. As this journey comes to an end it is natural to look back on this blessed time.
