Matthew Beck has been hired to fill a new position with the Archdiocese of Anchorage as director of youth ministry. He will assume his new post Aug. 3.

Beck holds a master’s degree in pastoral ministries from St. Mary’s University in Winona, Minn. in addition to an undergraduate degree in secondary education from the University of Idaho.

His background in church ministry includes 21 years of full-time parish work. He served two years at St. Mary’s Parish in Moscow, Idaho, as coordinator of youth ministry, nine years as the Director of Youth Ministry at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Anchorage, and 10 years at St. Michael Church in Palmer as a youth minister and most recently as the parish life director.

Beck’s new position with the archdiocese will entail building relationships with those serving the young church.

“He will develop, implement and coordinate archdiocesan youth ministry events, enhance communications skills and provide opportunities for professional development and training in the area of youth ministry,” said Director of Faith Formation Bonnie Bezousek in a statement about Beck’s hire.

“Matthew, a talented and gifted man will bring a wealth of knowledge, passion, leadership skills and energy to the archdiocese as the director of youth ministry,” Bezousek added.
