Seminarian Kevin Klump, who since 2011 has been in formation to become a priest for the Anchorage Archdiocese, will take a pivotal step in his journey this month. On Aug. 2 he will participate in the Mass of Candidacy with Anchorage Archbishop Roger Schwietz at 8:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Anchorage.
Known also as the Rite of Candidacy, this is the moment when a seminarian formally and publicly declares before the archbishop his desire to become a candidate for the sacrament of holy orders.
Klump, who grew up in Anchorage, told the Catholic Anchor in 2011 that as a young boy he used to play-act Masses at home using grape juice and Ritz crackers. “I always wanted to be a priest,” he said at the time.
