Gift wrappers needed

Christmas gift wrapping will take place at the Brother Francis Shelter in Anchorage on Dec. 17, 4-7 p.m. Volunteers will wrap gifts to be handed out to guests this Christmas Eve. Archbishop to celebrate Christmas Eve Mass at homeless shelter

Anchorage Archbishop Roger Schwietz will celebrate the annual Christmas Eve Mass at the Brother Francis Shelter in Anchorage at 6 p.m. on Dec. 24. All community members are invited to attend.


Ongoing volunteer opportunities at Catholic Social Services

On an ongoing basis Catholic Social Services in Anchorage needs volunteers to help serve hungry, homeless and vulnerable people. Below are some roles that need filling:

Saint Francis House Food Pantry Expeditor Assistant: The Pantry needs a volunteer to assist a driver in picking up food and other items from off-site partners and donors. They are looking for people who can be available on selected days from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. during the week. Days and hours are flexible. Volunteers should be able to lift 40 lbs to serve in this role.

Refuge Assistance and Immigration Services (RAIS): The outreach is in need of Family Mentors to serve as a cultural ambassador/family mentors to a newly arrived refugee family.
