6 Washington Catholics help remodel hall of St. Rose of Lima Parish in Wrangell

Six men from St. Michael Parish in Olympia, Washington, traveled to Wrangell for a week to help parishioners remodel the St. Rose of Lima Parish hall in early June.

“Please offer a prayer for each of them and their needs,” said Father Steven Gallagher on Facebook about the “Missionary Six,” as he calls them — Deacon John Bergford, Tom Brignole, John Hipp, Robin Steinbecker, Dick O’Conner, and Jeff Stillman.

The six men also built new stairs for a Wrangell resident receiving help from the local Catholic Community Service satellite, according to Deacon Bergford.

The parish hall had a complete remodel with the addition of new flooring and countertops, the installation of new appliances, and many other features, Fr. Gallagher said.

Various people throughout the community helped with the remodeling or through charitable donations, according to Fr. Gallagher.

Although the hall is remodeled, Fr. Gallagher noted that the parish still needs to update its cooking and serving utensilsfor the new kitchen, which he said are more than 40 years old. For those who’d like to offer a monetary donation, drop off items at the Wrangell parish or mail them to:
