Jubilee Year 2025 – Pilgrims of Hope

The Jubilee Year 2025 is a time of special significance in our faith. It is a Holy Year marked by the hope that does not fade: our hope in God. This year, in particular, is a Jubilee of Hope, a hope for deepening our relationship with God and renewing our faith and commitment to the love and compassion of Christ.

At the start of my first full year as a bishop in 2018, I made a list of New Year’s resolutions. As I review them now, I notice that many of them aim to improve my life, and few improve the lives of others. The Jubilee Year is a significant occasion to grow in the love of Christ, which helps me focus not only on my well-being but also on the common good. During the Jubilee, we will have many opportunities to resolve to treat each other with greater love and respect, care for those in need, and share Christ’s love with all through our compassionate words, hands, and hearts.

As we embark on this Jubilee Year, I offer three Scripture passages for reflection on the love of Christ. They are “The Judgement of the Nations” Matthew 25:31-46; “The Parable of the Good Samaritan” in Luke 10:29-37; and in the 15th chapter of John’s Gospel 1-17, “The Vine and Branches” in which Jesus gives us a command, “This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.”  These passages are particularly relevant during this Jubilee Year of Hope as they guide us on how to act and love like Jesus.

The early Christians were known for their love, even in the face of persecution. Like them, we must consciously resist fear, anger, frustration, and hatred and choose to love our neighbor, even when it is difficult and requires compassion, commitment, and sacrifice. Our Lord entrusts us with the responsibility to live out his command to “love one another.” Love is an active choice we must make every day with the love of Christ as our motivation for all we do.

During this Jubilee, I pray for us through the intercession of our Blessed Mother and our patroness, Saint Thérèse, to place our hope in God and for the grace to share the love of Christ.

Año Jubilar 2025 – Peregrinos de la Esperanza

El Año Jubilar 2025 es un tiempo de especial significado en nuestra fe. Es un Año Santo marcado por la esperanza que no se desvanece: nuestra esperanza en Dios. Este año, en particular, es un Jubileo de Esperanza, una esperanza de profundizar nuestra relación con Dios y renovar nuestra fe y compromiso con el amor y la compasión de Cristo.

Al comienzo de mi primer año completo como obispo en 2018, hice una lista de resoluciones de Año Nuevo. Al revisarlas ahora, noto que muchas de ellas apuntan a mejorar mi vida, y pocas mejoran la vida de los demás. El Año Jubilar es una ocasión significativa para crecer en el amor de Cristo, lo que me ayuda a centrarme no solo en mi bienestar sino también en el bien común. Durante el Jubileo, tendremos muchas oportunidades para resolver tratarnos unos a otros con mayor amor y respeto, cuidar a los necesitados y compartir el amor de Cristo con todos a través de nuestras palabras, manos y corazones compasivos.

Al iniciar este Año Jubilar, ofrezco tres pasajes de las Sagradas Escrituras para reflexionar sobre el amor de Cristo. Se trata de “El juicio de las naciones” en Mateo 25:31-46; “La parábola del buen samaritano” en Lucas 10:29-37; y en el capítulo 15 del Evangelio de Juan 1-17, “La vid y los sarmientos”, en el que Jesús nos da un mandato: “Este es mi mandamiento: que os améis los unos a los otros como yo os he amado”. Estos pasajes son particularmente relevantes durante este Año Jubilar de la Esperanza, ya que nos guían sobre cómo actuar y amar como Jesús.

Los primeros cristianos eran conocidos por su amor, incluso frente a la persecución. Como ellos, debemos resistir conscientemente el miedo, la ira, la frustración y el odio y elegir amar a nuestro prójimo, incluso cuando es difícil y requiere compasión, compromiso y sacrificio. Nuestro Señor nos confía la responsabilidad de vivir su mandato de “amarnos los unos a los otros”. El amor es una elección activa que debemos hacer todos los días teniendo el amor de Cristo como motivación para todo lo que hacemos.

Durante este Jubileo, rezo por nosotros, por intercesión de nuestra Santísima Madre y nuestra patrona, Santa Teresita, para que pongamos nuestra esperanza en Dios y para que tengamos la gracia de compartir el amor de Cristo.
