First anniversary of the election of Pope Leo XIV / Primer aniversario de la elección del Papa León XIV

Friday, May 8th, marked the first anniversary of the election of Pope Leo XIV. It is important to pray for our Holy Father and his intentions, especially for his intention for peace and reconciliation in our world: a peace grounded in love and justice.

The Gospel Reading on May 8th was from the 15th chapter of the Gospel of John. Jesus says: “This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. And he adds: “This I command you: love one another.”

Notice that the Lord’s words are not a suggestion, but a direct command from the Lord himself, addressed to all of us to love one another.

We can support Pope Leo by praying for our Holy Father daily and join him in praying and working for peace at home and throughout our world. The Lord’s peace will come about when we decide to love one another and work for justice. Let us be instruments of peace, loving one another as Jesus commands us.

El viernes 8 de mayo se cumplió el primer aniversario de la elección del Papa León XIV. Es importante rezar por nuestro Santo Padre y por sus intenciones, especialmente por su intención de paz y reconciliación en nuestro mundo: una paz cimentada en el amor y la justicia.

La lectura del Evangelio del 8 de mayo provino del capítulo 15 del Evangelio de San Juan. Jesús dice: «Este es mi mandamiento: ámense unos a otros como yo los he amado». Y añade: «Esto les mando: que se amen unos a otros».

Observemos que las palabras del Señor no son una sugerencia, sino un mandato directo del propio Señor, dirigido a todos nosotros, de amarnos unos a otros.

Apoyemos al Papa León rezando a diario por nuestro Santo Padre y unámonos a él en la oración y el trabajo por la paz, tanto en nuestros hogares como en todo el mundo. La paz del Señor se hará realidad cuando decidamos amarnos unos a otros y trabajar por la justicia. Seamos instrumentos de paz, amándonos mutuamente tal como Jesús nos lo manda.
