Alaska priests gather from across vast distances for annual meeting

Nearly 50 Alaska priests gathered in Anchorage for several days of formation, fellowship and to celebrate Mass in honor of three of their members who recently died.

On Feb. 24 the priests gathered for Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Co-Cathedral in Anchorage with Anchorage Archbishop Roger Schwietz, Juneau Bishop Edward Burns and Fairbanks Bishop Chad Zielinski.

The liturgy was a Mass of Remembrance for late Anchorage Archbishop Francis Hurley, Jesuit priest Father Louis Renner and Juneau priest Father Thomas Weise, all of whom died over the past year.

The annual Alaska Priest Convocation draws priests from across the state’s three dioceses — the Archdiocese of Anchorage, the Diocese of Juneau and the Diocese of Fairbanks.
