Anchorage’s Catholic Social Services needs holiday donations

Catholic Social Services in Anchorage is calling for volunteers to help carry out its holiday outreach effort.

In particular the agency is looking for participants in its Helping Holidays program which benefits those being served by Refugee Assistance & Immigration Services, Family Disability Services, and Homeless Family Services. Volunteers who assist with these outreaches have the opportunity to help others in a “personalized way for our community” by giving “to a family that could use some help this holiday season,” the agency noted in a recent statement.

The Helping Holidays program works by matching a donor with an anonymous family. The family lists what they would like to receive and the donor then fulfills all or part of the list.

The donors will work with CSS staff and volunteers to find the appropriate family for the level of giving that they can provide.

Due to the confidential nature of the donations, donors do not meet the families, but CSS staff give the gifts to the families on the donor’s behalf.

So far the agency reports that it has found donors for 72 families with 12 still in need of help.

Those interested in donating to a family or household can contact Wes Hoskins at whoskins@cssalaska.org or 341-9878.
