Catholic young people are falling away from the faith at a staggering rate as families and relatives struggle with how best to respond. Catholics United for the Faith in Anchorage invites the public to an evening with Father Michael Shields as he addresses some of the most pressing challenges now facing Catholic families. Why do young people leave the faith? What can be done to help stem the tide? How can adults ensure that children have a living, active and internal faith rather than merely a rote family tradition? What are some effective family practices that can help young people grow and persevere in their walk with God once they leave home? Father Shields will address these and other aspects of passing on the faith to the up-and-coming generation of Catholics. The evening runs 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26, at the Lunney Center of Our Lady of Guadalupe Co-Cathedral in Anchorage. The presentation will include a talk followed by a question and answer discussion. A potluck dessert reception will follow the talk.
