Marriage getaway for two
Worldwide Marriage Encounter invites married couples to a weekend retreat at the Holy Spirit Retreat Center from Friday, May 13, to Sunday, May 15. Retreat set for engaged couples
Engaged couples – Catholic and non-Catholic alike – are welcome to join the Engaged Encounter retreat at the Holy Spirit Center from Friday, June 3, to Sunday, June 4. The program provides marriage preparation primarily for couples that are planning to marry in the Catholic Church. However, couples that are not Catholic are also welcome to attend. Teens, young adults prepare for World Youth Day
Teens and young adults around the Anchorage Archdiocese are preparing for World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland this summer.
The international, weeklong gathering celebrates the Catholic faith with special Masses, devotions and audiences with the pope. Initiated by Pope John Paul II in 1986, the event draws hundreds of thousands of youth (mostly from age 16 to 35) from around the world and takes place every couple of years at different locations around the globe. Marriage Encounter weekend at Wasilla outdoor camp
On Aug. 26-28, Worldwide Marriage Encounter will host its “Explore, Rediscover and Connect!” weekend at St. Therese’s Camp in the Mat-Su Valley. Those interested in attending are urged to reserve tent, RV space or cabins at Saint Therese’s Camp. The weekend is for “joy-filled priests and married couples who want to ensure their sacrament of marriage or holy orders remains a top priority,” states a notice from the group. Yale choir to give special concert in Anchorage
The Yale Spizzwinks, featuring 2013 Holy Rosary Academy graduate Michael Tappel, will perform a public concert at St. Patrick Church in Anchorage at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25. Based at Yale University in Connecticut, the Spizzwinks are America’s oldest underclassman a cappella group. Founded in 1914 the group boasts a diverse repertoire that includes jazz, pop, oldies and folk and traditional genres. Healing Mass at St. Andrew Church
St. Andrew Church in Eagle River will celebrate a special Mass on Friday, May 13, at 7 p.m. for those who have experienced pain in pregnancy and for those who have suffered the loss of a child in miscarriage or other events. Following Mass there will be light refreshments and an opportunity for group prayer and fellowship with others who have experienced painful losses. CSS Charity Ball set for May 7
Catholic Social Services will hold its annual Charity Ball on May 7, 5:30 p.m. at the Hotel Captain Cook. Abortion healing outreach offers healing approach
Project Rachel is a confidential support group for post-abortive women and others who have been impacted by abortion. The group meets in Anchorage. The ministry of the Archdiocese of Anchorage helps those from all faith backgrounds who may be suffering from the emotional trauma of abortion. The group is free and open to the public with the aim of fostering healing, peace and reconciliation with the Lord. Summer Catholic camp registration
The summer’s first session of St. Therese’s Camp in the Mat-Su Valley begins June 22. According to a notice from the Catholic camp, its programming for children in grades 3-8 includes “swimming, kayaking, canoeing, singing, campfires, archery, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, arts and crafts and outdoor skills training in a fun and vibrant lakefront setting in the Mat-Su Valley while sharing the joy of the Catholic Faith.” For more information go online to stthereseak.com or call (907) 232-2066.
Mass celebrated at Native hospital
Every Sunday at 11 a.m., Mass is celebrated at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage for patients and families. Masses are celebrated in Conference Room 2, near the cafeteria.
Weekly children’s Mass in Anchorage
On Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Father Joseph McGilloway at Holy Cross Church in Anchorage is offering a Mass geared toward children. Attendees are encourage to bring homeschoolers, toddlers and nursing babes. People without children are welcome too.
UAA club connects Catholic students
The Cardinal Newman Club at the University of Alaska, Anchorage meets in the Cuddy Hall cafeteria area for prayer and Scripture reflection on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. and Fridays at 9 a.m. Students who wish to connect with fellow Catholic students on campus may contact the Newman Club chairperson Garrett Rossing at 715-0776.
Baccalaureate Mass for Lumen Christi
The baccalaureate Mass for Lumen Christi High School seniors will be at St. Benedict Church in Anchorage at 7 p.m. on May 11. For more information call the school at 245-9231.

Holy Rosary baccalaureate May 17
A baccalaureate Mass will be at Holy Family Cathedral in Anchorage on May 17 at 6 p.m. It will be a Dominican rite Mass as requested by the seniors.
Holy Rosary graduation May 18
Holy Rosary Academy will hold its graduation on May 18, 12 p.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Co-Cathedral in Anchorage. After the graduation a reception will take place in the Lunney Center, 1:30-3:30 p.m.
