This past April, the Co-Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Juneau began renovations. It is hoped this project will be completed by Easter 2027.
Built in 1910 by Fr. Edward Brown, S.J., third pastor of the parish, which began in 1882, the co-cathedral’s church building has weathered many years and served the people of the Diocese of Juneau and the Archdiocese of Anchorage-Juneau well.
“The parish is definitely excited,” Pastor Fr. Patrick Casey says regarding renovations.
Archbishop Andrew Bellisario, C.M., was able to visit the parishes of Juneau shortly before renovations began at the co-cathedral.
Dawson Construction was selected to carry out the project. To begin renovations meant that by April 6, the entire sanctuary had to be emptied and Mass for the community would be celebrated in the parish hall. By mid-April, they mobilized on site and began installing security fencing.
